Some time ago I did a little hacking around and came up with a way to insert a progress bar when uploading files: archived forum thread

This was EE1 only, and used the now defunct (and very missed!) nGen file field. Recently I’ve been struggling with file issues on an EE2 install so I figure I’d give it a shot. I’m pretty happy with the results: safecracker file field with progress bars

Essentially, it uses a PHP extension called updateprogress to track the file upload, and jquery to poll the info and inject the display into the form.

If there’s any interest I’ll try to post some more info, although it’s essentially the same as the last time. 😊

    Hi there,

Yep, we are interest here 😉 but actually digging in a custom (fieldtype) solution. I would be very interested to see how you implement it.

Very interested - thanks for sharing 😊

EDIT to add:  The video demo you show is great - this is huge for usability.  Does it work on the front end as well?

Nice stuff. How do you calculate the percentage, or, how does the script know the final size of the file?

One caveat though, when you clicked submit in the video, you went back again to the entry and changed the body text? Once the user clicks submit i would set all form fields to disabled.

This is a major need, safecracker is excellent yet this is the missing piece. Is this available anywhere would love to know how to implement this ASAP. Thanks
