    Hi.

I am fairly new to EE and building a site for a client. The client needs to have a very basic member setup with member registration, member lists and member profiles. I was hoping that the EE Member Module would be able to handle this.

I am, however, quite amazed of the complexity of the member module. It is very messy and very hard to customize (what’s with all the tables in the markup?)

So I started looking for add-on alternatives and found solspace - it seems to do what I am looking for but $100 for an add-on is more than I care to spend.

So my question is: Is there an easy-to-customize way of making member profiles? Is there a cheaper solution than solspace?

Other than this issue my first experience with EE has been amazing!

    Hi Jonas G,

    You could try this:

    http://www.addonbakery.com/expressionengine-addons/simple-registration.html

or some of the addons here:

    http://www.intoeetive.com/index.php/category/extending_ee

However in most cases, I think Solspace pretty much has a lock on this aspect of EE expansion!

$100 is way cheaper than trying to man handle the EE tables based process.

The extensions mentioned above a super fine for registering but if you want users to edit their profile down the track then you’re back into EE template territory.

I’ve used “Users” and generally takes me about 30 minutes to set up (install, configure through to working)
    $100 - user module
    $75 - 30 minutes of my time
    ———
$175 😊 @ $150 p/h it equates to just over an hour of my time = No brainer

Try getting EE’s form “just so” in any less and you should probably make it into an extension 😉

    My 3 cents anywho 😊

    Thanks for the assist, Cheif.

Jonas, I have to agree with Cheif in this. There are times when purchasing a third party add-on is better than having to do the same work yourself.

    Does that help?

Thanks for the replies. I see your logic Cheif and I agree so I will go and buy the module. This is my first EE sites so I needed to hear it from someone experienced.
