Hello,
I seem to have EE working and the moblog working here

I want to insert a weblog (and use the moblog sometimes to post to it) into a specific area on my site “before the EE folder.”

Here is the dev page on which I wish to show the EE weblog.

The weblog will be only a portion of the page (where it says “Applications of the NTS—EEWebLog GOES HERE”).

So, my problem is that I know very little about EE and less about mixing it with my complex flash and php work already going on here on these pages.

I thought I might try to reinstall the EE into the main folder of my site but then I noticed some conflicts:

1) index.php is already being used by my site to show my front page of my site, and that would be a deal breaker until I understood a lot more about how to integrate all my complex code as mentioned above with EE. (Maybe it is easy & I just need a good quick lesson.) I TRIED making an exact copy of my EE index.php and naming it indexEE.php and I was happy to see it works: http://accomplishtheimpossible.com/EE/indexEE.php?
BUT, I do not know what other code I would have to change if we were to use that concept to have the EE index and my Site’s index in the same folder. (Obviously, there is more to that “fix”.)

2) The images folder is already being used by my site. I think I could place everything from the EE/images into my site’s images folder without a problem since there are no exact matches on folder or file names… Is this how you see it too?

3) I would probably be best off if I do it this way to make a new database and begin with a fresh install BECAUSE when I did this first install, I made the database in the mysql 4 instead of 5.

Is it possible to put EE weblogs into my existing site?

Where do I learn how?

Must I reinstall or can I get this EE folder to work with my files that are one up from it?

Should I reinstall anyway just to make the database a mysql 5? (It is not that hard to install now that I know a bit about it.)

Am I allowed to reinstall EE on this site or will some system stop me because it thinks it is a second or not paid for install?

This is not possible. Since you already have a fully working site you’ve done the right thing by installing ExpressionEngine into a subdirectory (EE) but ExpressionEngine generated content must appear at paths ‘after’ that subdirectory. For example, you could have a link http://yourdomain.com/EE/applications_of the NTS that would be a standalone page generated by ExpressionEngine. You can of course make give that page the look and feel of our existing site by copying your layout to the ExpressionEngine template.

You don’t need to create another index.php file because ExpressionEngine is already installed in a subdirectory separate from your existing main site and its index.php file. It is possible to both ExpressionEngine and your existing site files work together properly in the main webroot but this would require the use of mod_rewrite in an .htaccess file.

The easiest way to do this really would be to transfer your whole site to EE. If most of your site will be static then you can pretty much just copy just existing PHP files into EE template.

MySQL 5 is not required but you can do that if you want.

You can install and reinstall EE as many times as you wish. You can also create a local install to test/play with as well.
