    Hi I had set up my blog with EE 2.0 the recent beta version and went to log into the cp today.  Nothing is there.  The install is inside of a subdirectory to my main site. From using ftp I know the files are still on the server.  When I use firebug lite in Chrome and the developer tools in IE it looks like the head and body have both been erased from the cp and the page which should be my blog.

    http://sidesix.org/aside/ is where you can see what should be the blog.

    Hi sidesix,

    Do you mean that nothing displays within your CP? Is all you are seeing a blank page similar to the link for your blog? If so, a blank screen is typically caused by a PHP error. Please edit your system/index.php file and switch on error reporting like this:

    /*
     * --------------------------------------------------------------------
     *  ERROR REPORTING OVERRIDE
     * --------------------------------------------------------------------
     *
     * PHP and database errors are normally displayed dynamically based
     * on the authorization level of each user accessing your site.
     * This variable allows the error reporting system to be overridden,
     * which can be useful for low level debugging during site development,
     * since errors happening before a user is authenticated will not normally
     * be shown.  Options:
     *
     * $debug = 0; Default setting. Errors shown based on authorization level
     *
     * $debug = 1; All errors shown regardless of authorization
     *
     * NOTE: Enabling this override can have security implications.
     * Enable it only if you have a good reason to.
     *
     */
        $debug = 1;

    When you’ve done that please try and log in again and if an error message is displayed post it here. Then change you system/index.php to switch off debugging.

    Cheers

    Thanks Greg.  That was exactly what I meant.  Turning on debugging returned this error

    A Database Error Occurred
    Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.

    Filename: core/EE_Config.php

    Line Number: 180

    Hi, sidesix. You might want to run the Server Wizard to make sure your settings are still OK for your database.

    Are you able to get things going again?

    Hi Sue,

    I ran the checker and everything checked out fine.  I’m hosting it with media temple so it should check out fine.  I haven’t been able to get it back up and I’m thinking I’ll have to reinstall.  I was using the current beta but I’ll reinstall the most stable release (non-beta).  I have quite a few blog entires.  Is there a way to do this without losing the blog entries?

    Thanks!

    Side Six,

    Don’t go reinstalling yet!! You have an error message saying EE is unable to talk to your database so lets troubleshoot that. Take a look at this thread. Does that work for you?

    Well it allowed me to reconfirm that I did everything correctly when installing ee.  Of course the permissions have changed since 1.6 so I double checked those against the User Guide.  But the post didn’t really address why all of a sudden ee isn’t talking to my database.

    Okay had another cup of coffee and then tried to get into my database with mysql.  I have a sub-domain on my account and had installed drupal.  At that time I had changed the password without thinking that the same root user would be on two databases.  Appears I’m still a newbie.  Thanks for your patience.
