Hackers,
I’m working on a project based on CodeIgniter. I’ll be similar to WordPress, but better. I’ve been working on and off on it for about a year, basically because I’d done about 20% of my back-ends in WordPress and about 80% in very custom back-ends, tailored very specifically to the users needs.
Most of my WordPress clients had a hard time figuring out how to use WordPress for the pages that weren’t inherently “blog” pages, and so I found that creating basic functionality for about 6 or 7 basic types of pages in a custom content management system was the best way to go. I realized that even though I had be tinkering with computers and code since I was 14, that didn’t mean that ANY of my clients had the slightest idea how to set up a MySQL database or what HTML was.
And so, I’ve been working on a project that I code named “Chi” (content handling/interface, but nobody needs to know that, b/c “chi” sounds way better lol). If you’re interested, thus far, I’ve been writing it based on codeigniter (or a very hacked up version of it), and I’d like other opinions/help. I’m a pretty good programmer and designer, and I’ll send you examples and a more in-depth explanation if you are down for the cause.
Basically I want to do a better CMS than WordPress. And I can’t do it myself.
I keep thinking what would WordPress look like if Apple made it? That’s what I’m trying to do!
