Tutorial does not work

When I follow the simple and nice and good TUTORIAL for 1.7 (http://expressionengine.com/legacy_docs/quick_start/step_2.html), I create the new template group (tutorial) and the index, and then I go here (by clicking on the view button as specified):
    http://accomplishtheimpossible.com/EE/index.php/tutorial/
AND IT SHOWS THE OTHER INDEX as if it can not find the tutorial/index address and is defaulting to the default EE/index
(I installed EE in a folder called EE)
What is wrong? How do I fix it? Am I right to assume I can not proceed with any EE work until this simple thing is fixed?
    Thank You!!!

Hi, magicss. There’s something going on - EE is seeing some sort of error and passing you back to the main index page.

Let’s have you do the following:

Create a new template group called test. In the test index template, put in just this text:

    This is the test template.

Save the template, and call it from your browser. Does that work?

Are you using any sort of .htaccess file? If so, you may want to try without it.

I had tried the test idea already! Thanks for the suggestion. And I figured it would be this kind of deal with htaccess. Hmmm. I need my htaccess file. I use it for all sorts of things. Well, I will try deleting it to see if EE works and then try to write it so EE works….

    Following Sue’s advice:
First i edited the htaccess file to clear potential conflicts - it did not work.
Then i renamed it, no luck.
Must i wait for some time before it “clears” out of server memory? (I have no idea what that means…)

So, what could cause EE to think it is not there…

    Thanks,

I do not know if I need to be more clear or how to get this to work. I am sure it is somewhat simple because I have a control panel and I have templates…
I can not navigate to anything other than the default index even after renaming the htaccess to xxxacess so it is no longer affecting the site. I have tried multiple browsers. It makes no sense that I can edit a template but not see it online!

This is not a criticism, but I am wondering if there is a way to chat or speed this up or do we have to do this somewhat slow (not bad at all, just a bit slow) method of support…? Obviously I am new to EE… It looks very promising however as a cool way to design. I am excited to finally try it.

    Is this a godaddy failure?

Hi, magicss. We work in shifts, and right now your question is at the top of the queue. You’re using Godaddy? My apologies for not asking sooner.

Is there a reason you installed in an EE directory instead of at the root?

Sue, my install is on a godaddy shared server with a direct ip address if needed, but the main default page of my EE instal runs fine.
The reason i placed it into a folder is because your directions said i could and i did not know what to expect.

Sue: Well I have just found some threads within your forums that describe godaddy workaround php.ini changes, index.php changes and other config type changes with code I do not understand at all. So, I conclude that this is over my head. If your company does not wish to clearly explain how to install this on godaddy for me in this setting, now at this time, I guess I will be out of luck for now. Let me know if you are willing to take this all the way or if it is not possible.

If we are going to fix this, what more info do you need about my config/server etc…?

GoDaddy is one of those hosts that require some modifications to get it to work correctly. Running in a subdirectory adds a bit of complexity to the issue. If you check your email, you’ll find a login request.

    Hi Sue,
What is a login request FOR?
So, I found it and logged in….
    Now what?

Steffan, did you receive the email I sent that requested you visit a page on our site and fill out the form there?

I was requesting a login so I could go in and see what you have set up wrong. Ordinarily there are several steps to take to get GoDaddy to work with EE, including what you find here:

    http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/130554/

Are you comfortable with editing your index.php file? The other changes are easy enough to do, and you really don’t have to fiddle with your php.ini.

    THANK YOU.
I was out of the office for 15 days (Maui!).
Back now and did it. Seems to be resolved.

I just do not know if it is worth calling GODADDY and asking them to support this or not. If it is worth it, do let me know, else this is done for now!

    Thanks All,
    -Steffan
