We just launched CartThrob2 (beta) eCommerce system for ExpressionEngine2 at http://cartthrob.com

Beta period cost $99. Will go up to $149.99 in May when we take it out of beta.

For those that don’t know, CartThrob is an ecommerce framework for ExpressionEngine that allows you to build advanced ecommerce with ExpressionEngine. In the past, we’ve used it to sell products, services, take donations, sell posts, and downloadable products. It’s multi-language and multi-currency compatible, multi-site-manager compatible, and generally pretty dang flexible. The most awesome part… unlike other ecommerce platforms, CartThrob runs using standard EE systems; standard EE weblog entries for product data, orders, coupons, members, etc, so you’re really extending EE. This isn’t a system that simply runs side by side with EE, it’s truly integrated.

For more info, check out the home page:

or the gallery of past sites here: http://cartthrob.com/site/gallery,
or checkout a bunch of screenshots here: http://emberapp.com/mahuti/collections/cartthrob2/
and you can get support here: http://cartthrob.com/forums

So…. for those familiar with CartThrob1, or past owners of CartThrob there are a few things I should tell you.

    1.  Any purchasers of CT2 beta are purchasing a real, full license. The product is beta, but the license entitles you to the full product when it launches on May 16(ish).

    2. CartThrob2 (beta) is not currently set up well for upgrades of CartThrob1 sites. We need to finish our migration tool, which I think we will be able to do before the planned full release date of May 16(ish)

    3. CartThrob1 license holders… we will send an announcement regarding upgrade costs and requirements later. Right now… we’re only recommending CT2 for new ecom installs, not upgrades. The things we’ve promised before at various times still apply (free or discounted upgrades, etc) but we’re not going to put all that into effect until we have a little more feedback, and take CartThrob2 out of beta in May. Have patience. We don’t want you upgrading and breaking stuff.

    4. THE FUN STUFF. There are lots of new features, like the item_options tag, backend reporting, better default templates, revised UI, better settings management. I’ll get into detail on those in another post. Right now…. man I’m just trying to get out the announcement…

Anyway, CartThrob2 *is* beta, and the docs while covering most things, need more work (just like CT1). If you purchase and have any problems please contact us in our forums http://cartthrob.com/forums.

All of that said, I’m super excited about the launch. We’ve really enjoyed working with it, and we hope to hear from you as you as you try it out.

Oh, and…. there’ll be more good stuff coming from us soon.

Just wondering if people buy the 2.0 version do they also get a way to still use 1.0 or is there still a way to purchase the 1.0 version?

Congratulations on what looks to already be a fantastic product and with your V2.0 looks set to be even better.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Congrats Chris!  This is wonderful news.

We replaced a custom commerce system we wrote a few years ago with CartThrob 1 when we launched the 4th iteration of http://www.bionicturtle.com a few months ago.  The transition could not have been better as your commitment to making CT extendable meant we were able to easily port two custom payment gateways, affiliate processing, content access checking and several other mods to CT with little effort.

Our client will be thrilled that we can now start to consider our options for upgrading to EE 2.x later this year after you wrap up the Beta period.

Can’t wait take CT 2 for a test drive.

    Keep up the great work!

A license for 1.0 is not included with 2.0. We consider them separate products. You can still buy 1.0 here: http://cartthrob.com/cart/products/

    Keep up the great work!

Thanks man. We’ll do what we can.
