    Hi,

I see the default image showing up for the thumbnails instead of the original thumbnails inside the control panel ....for a user provided access with admin privileges to the CP. The same happens with the safecracker form….I am using safecracker file for image field

otherwise all thumbnails seem fine on the front end ... Please help

    Regards,
    sajwal

    Hi, sajwal.

Can you tell us which version/build of EE2.x you’re using? See EEWiki:// HowTo Determine My EE Version

You mentioned SafeCracker - which version of SafeCracker?

Let’s also check the amount of memory allocated to PHP…

Have you seen: EEWiki:// HowTo Determine Memory Limits

I also have this current same problem… was there a fix for this? Im just seeing the default icon/image rather than a thumbnail of the ACTUAL IMAGE FILE in the CP, when using Safecracker File as a type of custom field.

    Would really appreciate a solution?

It seems that when i import or use the existing file option on this fieldtype its not creating the (thumbs) directory or images within.. however if i use the browse button to choose an image then all is well. This however doesnt really help when you upload the images via FTP and just want to choose an existing file or as i have done here, import 500 lines of data with an image for each…

All works on the front end just not in the CP, just get the default image unless i upload via the browse button.. which is a bit of a bind to say the least..

    Any ideas on a fix?

    Hi Etheya,

Am I correct in understanding that this only occurs with the SafeCracker File fieldtype, and not the built-in File fieldtype?

    Hi Brandon,

Hard to tell 100% as ive not tried with the built-in file fieldtype as it doesnt allow me to state the upload destination.. which when the site is a gallery is not ideal.

Like i said though, its only happening when..

    1) Batch upload the files to the correctly mapped folder via FTP
    2) Do a DataGrab import to a particular “Channel” of which one of the custom fields is setup as the Safecracker File field

The images display fine on the front end… but if the client goes in to Content > Edit and chooses an entry.. the thumbnail displayed is just the default version. It doesnt seem to know to create the thumbnail.

Where as if i add the image by using the browse and upload that way, it creates the thumbnail fine, which im presuming is generated on save etc.

But with 600 images, descriptions and so on i would much rather import! worked fine before with Ngen File..

Can you think of anyway around this issue?

Etheya, I vaguely remember seeing someone post a work around for creating thumbnails on the fly, I *think* it was Rob Sanchez, but I can’t find the reference right this second.

    Found it!

    Thread

    I haven’t tested it personally.

    Does that help?

    Etheya,

Restored the thumbs using Rob’s script on many websites without problem after upgrading from ngen file field in 1.7. Works like a charm.

Seems like the next version of EE will help with that as well.

    Etheya,

The dev team is working on upgrades to the File Manager that should fix the problem you’re having with thumbnails for FTPd images. I have quite a few to test with. 😊 That won’t help you today, but be assured we’re working hard on making sure this next release is solid. Thanks in advance for your patience.

Etheya, have you given the 2.1.4 beta a try?

Hi Brandon… i havent no.. mainly as its beta and this is on a live client site.. so i would be a little nervous about it. Is it a vast improvement at all?

    Hi Etheya,

There are some significant changes to the File Manager. I suggest taking a look at it on a local install initially if you can.

    Cheers

    Greg
