First let me start by saying hello to the community at large. For over 5 years I have been on your side of the EllisLab / Community relationship so it is still a bit strange having been absorbed into the matrix, but so far so good (did I mention they have cookies?). As you have probably heard I was hired to bring an Enterprise Level of services to EllisLab for those working with ExpressionEngine. I would like to take this opportunity to say that if you are a developer that regularly works on Enterprise level work; or if you are a direct client and have a reason to be interested in Enterprise Services I would love to hear from you.

Now, on to some other exciting stuff! This week Leslie Camacho, Leslie Doherty, Greg Aker and myself will be attending SxSW in the hopes of meeting up with community members. So if you are going to be there make sure to check in on the FaceBook page for the Meet-up. Also make sure to let us know in the forum thread for this blog post in case you are not able to attend that gathering.

If you have something you want to discuss that you think warrants a private meeting with any of the four of us then just send the person you want to meet with an email. This week is mostly about meeting with you and carrying any thoughts you may have back into the matrix.

Mr. Neto you should know better than to accept cookies from the strangers 😊
What is the plan or definition for Enterprise Services anyhow?
I been wanting to push EE into our house as intranet but EE lacks major hooks to play along withe other components of Ent. apps mainly Microsoft (LDAP,AD, Exchange, Office suite). Would love to see EE be a sub for sharepoint 😛

Congrats on a EE jersey, you have always played along well with the crowd in here.
Have fun on SxSW, wish I could join.

We would also love to hear more as most of our work is for major corporations and universities.  What’s in store?

We’re getting close to having the initial set of services finalized & as Marcus mentioned we’ll give an update on where we’re at next week.

What would be most helpful is if you .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) directly and told him what you need in terms of enterprise services. Or, if you’re comfortable, just post them to this thread.

“Enterprise” can mean a whole range of things at a whole range of price points. We’re not very interested in launching with a shotgun approach. We’ve been interviewing people privately for several months now to narrow ourselves down to a good starting point we can build from.

For sure enterprise means private support with an assigned contact point who follows through on all issues in a consistent, reliable manner with a clear escalation structure, and the ability to pay for additional high level services such as optimization, migration, code review, customization, etc… I’m not saying all this will be available when we start, I’m just sharing what others of told us they want to see.

The two trickest parts thus far are how to deal with servers & 3rd party add-ons. In terms of servers, we have a good idea of where to start, but add-ons will be tricky, no doubt. We’ll likely need vetted add-ons/teams that participate with our enterprise services in some fashion. Once we understand the basic needs a little more clearly we’ll likely start contacting add-on makers.
