    Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone could post or point me to a list of improvements (if any) made to the Wiki module in EE2. We’re considering switching to MediaWiki for our wiki needs, but if the EE2 wiki is that much better than that in EE1, I might just hold off until I upgrade.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi, Chris -

The wiki didn’t have any major changes.  Which MediaWiki features are pulling you over there, if I might ask?  I’d be happy to share that feedback with our team.

    Thank you!

I am also thinking of adding MediaWiki.  My question is - is there a way to integrate MediaWiki with ee - in the sense of having it editable only by registered users?

If not, would it just be a separate thing that you just cross link?  Are there ways to pull in MediaWiki content into the ee site?  And vice-versa?

Also, I don’t suppose the code is copy and paste-able between the forums and a MediaWiki - A tag parser for automatic conversion of formatting across different…er, venues.  As it is, you write a long article in word, say.  Format it with headings and lists and a table.  Then you want to plop this into an article on the site - you have to reformat with html.  And then to put a block of it in the forums, again with the formatting.  So now, by adding MediaWiki that would be yet another round of formatting conversion.

    Let me know your thoughts!

    Thanks and best regards!

For me it’s the increased formatting flexibility, inserting tables and such.

And also, breaking down a page to edit it in sections.

We want to use this for collaboration on a lot of complex, hyperlinkable stuff.

    And language support.

What else?  I’m not sure if we can set it up and then join a WikiFarm after the fact.  But the idea that it may be fed into other things later is of interest.  Forward compatibility?  Is there even a standard.

Too many options in this world, makes me dizzy.

    Hi, focusfusion -

There isn’t any current integration with MW.  Both have APIs, so it may be possible to create such an integration, but you’d need to code that up yourself.  The same goes for cross-referencing content; though if you can use Magpie to pull in RSS feeds it may be a bit more simple.  That’s on the EE end, but MW may have Magpie support as well.  It’s been a few years since I administered a MediaWiki site.

Nope, you can’t copy/paste across the two sites.  Some tags may be the same, but you’ll end up with many funky results.

If you use the EE Wiki, there is a forum talk discussion to link a wiki article to the forums - we use that in our own wiki form here.

I don’t think there is a wiki standard, at least, I have not seen one.

EE’s wiki is pretty simple and straightforward.  There is a TOC plugin that can you let you do sections.  You could also use Textile or Markdown to allow for easily created tables, etc.

Ultimately I’d recommend trying both and seeing which will work for you.  I know that’s not the easiest answer, but it is the best. =)

(Every time I look at the Mac app store I agree about the “too many options” statement!)
