I’m not having this problem on my local MAMP install, but on the live IIS server, if a member is registered through the CP and the default birthday fields are left blank a 500 error page occurs. Registering through the member/register works fine.
I can give some server info from the php info page. Let me know if any of that would be helpful.

I should mention that I have EE 2.1.4 Beta Build 20110201 installed, but I was having this same problem when I was running 2.1.3.

Which version of MySQL are you using? If it is version 5.5.x then there is a known bug.
