    Hi,

I have been tasked with moving an EE 1.6 site to a new server. Currently it resides on an IIS site but we have a LAMP server all set and ready to go. I’ve downloaded the 1.7 files and have uploaded and run the install but I need to migrate the old site to the new version.

Initially I’ve uploaded the backed up site and the DB to the new server and have adjusted the config.php accordingly but the site isn’t displaying correctly. So I figured I could install 1.7 and uploaded the portions of the site needed to get it back how it was.

Is it a case of installing the 1.7 site, overwriting the DB files with the existing DB files and then uploading and activating the theme?

I use Wordpress so I have and inkling but not enough to know where to turn next.

Where, if anywhere, are the EE template / theme files stored?

    Thanks

What version of EE are you upgrading from? It’s probably easier to upgrade in place, as it were, then simply move to the new server.

    Hi,

The current version of the IIS site is 1.6 and the LAMP server has 1.7. I’ve initially tried to upload the older site in it’s entirety but it’s not playing ball.

The other reason for wanting a fresh copy is that the site at the moment on the IIS server isn’t functioning fully. Some pages are broken, for example.

    The site is: http://www.veryanmed.com/

Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums, Infinity.

Since you’re new to the EE forums, have you seen EEWiki:// How to Post a Support Request?

You mentioned 1.6 - is that the *exact* version, or did you mean to say “one of the versions in the 1.6 branch.”

I agree with you.. get the 1.7.0 version working exactly as needed, and also install any third party add-ons you are using on the 1.6.x version.

Test with the setup you have, then make a backup copy of the database that you know works. (1.7.0)

Upload your .sql files to the new server, but don’t put in the exp_sites table. Then change your config.php to have the version number found in your IIS config.php file, and run the upgrade.

    Does that help?
