Hi all,

I have a question regarding the change of field group assignments. I have 2 channels which both use the same custom field group. Both channels have already entires with content. Now I want to add another custom field - but this should only be visible for one of the two channels.

I’m thinking to create another custom field group with the same custom fields I had in my group before and then adding this extra custom field. Do I keep the data in my entries when I then change the custom field group assignment or do I loose all my entries? I don’t want to break or loose anything. Or do you have another idea how to solve this?

Hi, Duffy-D. What I’d do is add the new custom field to the same custom field group, but create a custom page layout for the channel that doesn’t need that additional field.

Thanks for your reply. Your suggestion came to mind yesterday as the easiest solution. But I have to say that this would have confuse my client.

I found a far better solution in my particular case. The extra custom field I wanted to add to the field group had to be a relationship field. Luckily I discovered the reverse relationship yesterday. So I didn’t had to add this extra field to the field group that was used by other channels but could add this extra field to another custom field group and then I pulled the data through the reverse related entry tag.

That saved my day. Love EE btw !!
