I’m having an issue with the built in File Manager not generating thumbnails on my server. We have our permissions for the upload directories set to 777 (along with the generated _thumbs folders). I’ve read a few other threads about this and it seems like for the most part, permissions cause the problems. Since our permissions are set at 777 I’m not sure where else to look.

I’ve set up several EE installs in the past and haven’t had this problem. I’m using version 2.1.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    pstinnett,

Can you run our Server Wizard please?
This will tell you if your server is capable of thumbnailing

    Just fixed a similar issue.

Check your phpinfo, search for “safe_mode” and make sure its set to off.  Apparently having it on throws a wrench into file access and writing permissions needed by imaging libraries like GD2.

I ran every test imaginable looking for issues before finding that one.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the assist, stephojoy29.

pstinnett - are you running with safe_mode on?

Thank you for the replies. PHP isn’t in safe_mode, but I ran the server wizard and see that GD isn’t working (or installed?). Is there a way to tell that from the PHP info file? I saw a couple of Apache modules mentioning GD so I assumed it was there.

Does it mentions GD (or GD2) or ImageMagick somewhere in there? You just might have to ask your host about installing an image manipulation library for you.
