All of my companies websites are down. I updated the config.php file as per this article:

    http://expressionengine.com/wiki/How_can_I_run_the_Discussion_Forums_from_a_subdomain_such_as_forums.example.com/

Apparently the copy on the server had some options written to it on install? I don’t have a backup of this config file. Any ideas? A prompt response would be super helpful 😊

UPDATE: I’ve got my companies’ main site up. I updated the config file per this article:
    http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Default_Config_Files/

but MSM(and all related sites) seems to not be working.

    Two questions:
    1. What lines of code do I need to put back into /system/expressionengine/config/config.php to get the other sites working?
    2. Was there anything in the install process that prompted me to download a fresh copy of config.php? There may have been and I might’ve missed it. If not, it would be good to prompt folks to download a fresh copy of that file(and any other mission critical file) so we can at least have it on our local copies/SVN’s 😊

UPDATE: I found out the MSM issue; the last issue was that MSM needed to be enabled again through Admin>General Configuration . When checked, it adds this to the config.php:

    $config['multiple_sites_enabled'] = "y";

Other sites back up now(and this config file is safely tucked away and committed to my SVN 😊 )

Again, maybe I missed something on install but I think it’d be beneficial to future devs to prompt them to download fresh copies of config and database.php .

So, you’re good now? Just making sure.

Hi, FlashBoyz - just to clarify; the database.php and config.php in the downloads are blank; these are populated during installation.  So you need to back these up separately, prompting to download them from our site wouldn’t have helped out here.

    Hope that helps!

Ingmar: Yep, everything’s back to normal.

Lisa: Actually, I was talking about prompting devs at the end of the installation process(maybe just a little sentence on the ‘installation success’ screen.) It might be overkill to put that in but if I had a copy saved on my local machine/svn that would’ve saved us some downtime.

A very sound idea, I think, Flashboyz, given the criticality of what’s in the config.php and database.php files after an install completes.

I always do this, in fact.

I think suggestions of this type aren’t heard very well from here, though with all softheartedness it each time feels a shame.

The recommendation and likely the best thing then is probably to raise this as a Feature Request, in the forum topic for Feature Requests just below.

Nice input narration, I’ll post on that board.

    Hi FlashBoyz,

Please do post a Feature Request for anything that you feel needs changing and will benefit the whole EE community. Are we ok to close this thread now?

    Cheers
