Are you developing your site on a local install or on your hosts server?

Initially it looks like either you haven’t created a database for your site OR the database settings are incorrect in your config.php file. The config.php file is located here: /system/expressionengine/config/config.php (in version 2.0). It’s a little different in 1.6+, but the same issue would be happening.

    Hope this helps ...

What version and build of EE are you using? Make sure you have provided the correct user name, password, db name and host.

Hello, thank you both for replying.

I have changed the file “/system/expressionengine/config/config.php” and fresh installed EE on the hosts server. This is EE version 2.0.

After the fresh install I was shown the page to bookmark the CP and the index.php but when I clicked on them the following is the error message- “Site Error: Unable to Load Site Preferences; No Preferences Found”.

    Please help. Thanks.

I remember when I first started off I came across this issue - i’m trying to remember the solution.

    Who is the host?

Are you able to get in the CP at all?

Did you delete your installation file per the instructions at the end of installation?

I did delete the installation folder, but I am not able to get into the CP. When I try the index.php, that is the error message displayed. I would really appreciate any help in this regard. Thank you.

Ah ... i think i may know what’s going on.

Change the permissions on your /system/ directory files ...

Permissions are always worth checking, of course. That said, if this is a new install you should certainly use nothing below EE 2.1.3.

I think Ingmar is certainly correct in having you double check your database settings in the config.php file.

I should have mentioned before to make sure and check the settings in the file database.php in the same directory:

    /system/expressionengine/config/database.php

    Any luck?

    Anything happening over there, sandy12?

    Hope it’s working out ...

Not really. The error message still shows up, would you suggest re-installation?

Not necessarily. Have you checked all the settings in your database.php file? Make sure that the hostname, username, password and database name are all correct.

You HAVE set up a MySQL database, i’m assuming? Without one, EE will not work!

    Can you confirm that?
