    Hi everyone, i’m still pretty new to EE and having trouble installing on my web server, i’ll try brake it down as wel as possible:
    • server is run on ‘Virtualmin’
    • i’m uploading using Cyberduck
    • also changed permissions using Cyberduck
    • i have renamed my system folder and applied the name to the first path in index.php
    • all my files are uploaded into ‘public_html’
    • i have successfully run the wizard that checks the requirements of the server

    When i direct my browser to http://www.sitename.com/system/installer/
    i get the 403 message: Directory access is forbidden.

    What am i doing wrong? I’ve tried re uploading etc. with no luck…

    Cheers,
    Manny.

    Greetings Manny,

    For 2.x, you should need to simply visit http://example.com/system/ to run the installer.

    Hi Greg, thanks for your fast answer, i think i got closer but now i get the following message: ‘Your system folder path does not appear to be set correctly. Please open the following file and correct this: index.php’

    Does it mean i have to go trough the whole document and change the path everywhere?

    Cheers,
    Manny.

    No, just the one setting in the config option. It looks as though your path may be off there?

    Ok so this is how i’ve done it in the index.php file:

    *——————————————————————————————————
    *  SYSTEM PATH
    *——————————————————————————————————
    *
    * The following variable contains the server path to your
    * ExpressionEngine “system” folder.  By default the variable is left
    * blank.  If you need to run your CP from somewhere other then
    * the default location you can set name here and move a copy of this
    * file to that location. If you set the name, please include the
    * server path. The path can be a simple relative path or it can
    * be a full server path.
    *
    * Example:  $system_path = ‘./mysecretfolder’;
    *
    */
      $system_path = “./something”;
    /*

    so i’ve called me system folder ‘something’ so should it be like “./something” and do the “” marks make a difference or should it be single quotation marks ‘./something’

    Thanks for helping out guys!

    Hi, Manny. Don’t modify the index.php file inside the /system folder, modify the index.php file off of the root directory.

    That one uses single quotes.
