I have a fully functioning site running 1.7, that I want to upgrade to version 2.1.3. The upgrade wizard completes with no errors, but when I log in to the control panel all content is truncated after characters such as “æ”, “ø” and “å” (this is a Norwegian site). Even my control panel username is truncated from “Pål Degerstrøm” to simply “P”.

I’ve down- and upgraded the site twice, and it happened both times.

    Is anyone able to help?

What is your table charset and collation after your update?  Is it properly converting everything to UTF8?

    Hi Greg,

I started investigating a bit after posting, and found a solution (that worked for me, at least). My database was utf-8 and utf8_general_ci, so I commented out the conversion code in the function convert_db_to_utf8() in the file ud_200.php (I left the return ‘standardize_datetime’; bit). I did the update, and everything seems fine.

Perhaps the conversion from (in my case utf8/utf8_general_ci to) latin1/latin1_swedish_ci back to utf8/utf8_general_ci is doing some harm? It seems to have done for me, in any case. You can close this thread, I will repost if my hack causes me problems 😊

Let me know if you’d like a database dump for debugging.

    Hi Pål,

Okay, I’ll close this thread. Thank you for the update.

    Cheers
