    Hi,

I’ve got an invite to tender for a large project where the client is open to CMS suggestions and can internally supply the hosting requirements for EE2. They have a requirement that some sections of the new site will need to access and write to a corporate level Microsoft SQL Server CRM database. This is an absolute requirement.

I’ve looked through the forums and I know that EE2 doesn’t directly support ms sql database connections, but I was wondering if it would be feasible to use CI based modules only for those particular sections of the site where access to the ms database is required?

Could you advise if this is a practical solution or if there are other approaches that could be considered?

    Thanks,
    Darrell

    Hi Darrell,

Codeigniter already supports MSSQL, and PHP in general supports it, we done a project a while back using EE1 that had to read/write to an oracle database hosted on an internal server for a college.

We created a custom plugin for EE1 (didn’t need as much control as a module) and it worked fine, so should be easy enough for you to do the same…

Thanks for stepping in, Matthew. Does that help, Darell? While EE as such requires MySQL there’s nothing to prevent you from having PHP code in your templates (or create a plugin or module, as Matthew did) to access external database. Please do let usk now if there’s anything else you’d like to know 😊

    Hi there,

I’ve got exactly the same issue, with a client running MS SQL 2008… unfortunately I have no php development experience, or creating plugins for EE.

Any suggestions/ guides/ help much appreciated!

    Thanks.

I can only suggest to start a new thread in the CodeShare Corner, perhaps?
