Removing default Member Fields

I’m pretty new to EE, so my question may have been answered adequately elsewhere, but here goes:

I see that a few people have asked how to remove the default Member fields in the CP, most of the responses have been on how to remove from the public view.

    1. Why are the default fields being added in the first place? I can understand username, password, member group assignment and perhaps screen name, but the rest of the fields are of little use. It means that code customization needs to me made to remove them, instead of it being as easy as adding the ones I want. Or am I missing something basic here?

    2. How do you actually remove them?

    Thanks

    Itopia Interactive,

    Welcome to the forums 😊

You cannot remove the default fields from the EE control Panel. You are welcome to make a feature request though.

You can however remove mention of them from the member templates via Design -> Themes -> Member Profile Themes

Thanks, I’ve added it here: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/177962/

I’ll remove them from the member templates, but I’ve got a client that will be managing some this data, so they’re going to be forced to navigate around these fields in the CP.

I am glad to see John Henry was able to clear this one up for you. Please post again in case there’s anything else, thanks.
