First, I want to say that while I think EE overall is great, you guys have a loooooong way to go to making documentation easy to find and easy to use.

I am trying to figure out if purchasing the Discussion Forum is right for me.  I have been playing around with an old version that’s available at work and see no way to:

    1.  Have a user choose to not display his/her email in the Profile.  It’s displayed in plain text.

    2. Disable the “Member List” button that shows (even to unregistered guests!) the entire membership list…emails, usernames, everything.

    3.  Styling of the error messages seems to be totally outside the Forum’s themes.  Each time a search contains no results the error message appears in a totally different style as the rest of the site.

Does the new version of Discussion Forum solve any of these issues?  Where is the documentation for this?

It seems these issues are addressed in THIS forum, so presumably there’s a way…fingers crossed.

    Thank you!

    Hi ray20,

    1.  Have a user choose to not display his/her email in the Profile.  It’s displayed in plain text.

I don’t know what version you’re looking at or whether that template has been customized, but the current version allows you to contact the member via an email form, like what you see when you click on your name in this forum. No emails are exposed.

    2. Disable the “Member List” button that shows (even to unregistered guests!) the entire membership list…emails, usernames, everything.

You can set this on a per-group basis. For the Guest group, just disable the Can view public profiles option.

    3.  Styling of the error messages seems to be totally outside the Forum’s themes.

Yes, the user message template is different but can certainly be customized.

Here’s a link to the Discussion Forum documentation.

Thank you for your interest and please don’t hesitate with additional questions!

Hi, I’m using a version of Discussion forum that I think is current:  2.2 (I’m using EE 1.7).  I haven’t modified the templates (well, some stylistic stuff, but nothing too severe) and am still not seeing any email form option.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

By default the email console is available on the user’s member page.
