    Hi together,

today, my very expensive QNAP T-439, which from the beginning was a nightmare, lost its RAID-5 Data in fact its was powered off by pressing the power button.

So my recommendation for YOU is - do never by QNAP, it sucks & wastes your time - I am just coming home from a horrible day - thanks QNAP.

Now, I am looking for a new NAS-Solution and I would hear your experience and solutions:

    - small workgroup (6 users)
    - about 1 TB of Data
    - very simple to administrate, I do not want to read books or become an admin at all
    - each user needs a password protected disc-space, accessible from Windows XP to Windows 7 clients, OSX Clients and a Linux-Client.
    - there is a need for a ‘pub’ shared between all users
    —lets say I need user-level and group-level rights 😊
    - the whole box needs to be backuped very easily (e.g. by cronjob)
    - low energy consupmtion (thats why I will not use just a Ubuntu-Box, which would be perfekt to administrate)

I am thinking about a Mac-Mini Server with 2x500GB, but I do not know if its overkill and if it is easy to extend.

    An hint is appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Chris

I have an older version of this but I love it
    Western Digital NAS

Has just about everything you requested, its cheap and quiet.

Works like a charm for me.
