Hi,

This is probably a simple one.  Is there a setting in a channel which I can only display featured events?

What do you mean by featured?

Assuming you have a custom field in the field group assigned to the channel in question, you can use the search:custom_field_name=“value” parameter of the channel:entries tag.

I’d recommend using statuses for that purpose.
