    Hi there,

I have clients trying to publish a Chinese language entry in EE, and the last three characters of the title field keep getting converted on saving to or . (The forum is adding semi-colons.)

    Here’s the title:

    余胤良宣布 三藩市市長探索委員會

I should note that the characters themselves don’t seem to matter—i.e., if I take the last three characters and put them at the front of the title, it still gets converted to

    委員會余胤良宣布 三藩市市

Is this a multi-byte character and field-length issue? The title seems unaffected if we remove the last three characters (i.e., no conversion takes place).

    EE 1.6.9 (20100430).

    Hi Eric,

That may be the problem though I am no expert in character conversion. Which character set is the client using and what is the EE default character setting? Are you in a position to upgrade the site to the latest version (which is a recommended update)?

    Cheers

    Greg

    Hi Greg,

I changed the length of the title field from 100 to 200 by hacking the core and changing the DB, which seemed to have worked. Not ideal, but the client wanted something fast. We’re using UTF-8.

    Eric,

What you need to do it goto CP Home ›  Admin ›  Weblog Administration ›  Global Weblog Preferences and turn Convert High ASCII to Entities off

It was probably converting your title into entities which were coming in at over 100 characters.

Let us know if that helps and will save you a hack
