My client’s ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 site http://cornwallalliance.org has a blank page both the frontend and the backend.  The login form page appears on my first visit to the backend, but once I log in, the backend displays a blank page.  So I can’t implement the steps listed here http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/troubleshooting/general/blank_pages.html except for setting error_reporting(E_ALL)).

Our license is current, and I tried setting error_reporting(E_ALL)) in both the frontend and the backend’s index.php, but got no error output.

Can you help us get the site running again?  Thanks!

    hey Guys,

i have no idea if this is your problem, but two places i might start looking when coming to blank pages or “white screens of death” would be

    1. PHP memory allocation on the server. see if you are allocated under 64mb

    go to admin>utilities>PHP Info>memory_limit

    or

    2. Extension compatability… the other thing i might check… i’ve had similar probs when extensions don’t work as planned

Thanks rokker!  We can’t check PHP memory allocation via ExpressionEngine because we can’t log into ExpressionEngine’s admin pages.

I don’t think we installed any new extensions since the site was last working correctly…Reid, can you confirm this from your end?

Tim, that is correct to my knowledge as well.  The site was working as of late last week.  This week we noticed it was having this issue.  No changes to the site or EE setup have been made.

Update: We had our hosting company (enginehosting.com) restart our web services and that got the site back online.  However, that doesn’t tell us why this went down in the first place.  Any support on that question still, would be appreciated, so we could try to keep this from happening in the future.

Glad you are up and running again although it makes it difficult to troubleshoot now unfortunately.

Can you check your PHP memory now please out of interest?

Yes, I’ve confirmed it is set to 64M.

    Thanks,
