What are my options? I need to organize +300 files with long filenames and I have only a few days to do the job.

You have done what I would have suggested by making a feature request
In the interim you could use something like SafeCracker File which is a nice solution for a lot of files with long filenames

SafeCracker File is only for uploading files, no? I don’t see a “Choose existing file” option and if it was available, most likely it would throw up the File Browser which is the very problem as it lacks list view. In the meantime I see what I can come up with as a temporary solution.
