I recently added a 5th site to westernpulp.com, where I have been running MSM successfully with 4 sites for months. I moved nothing, but duplicated some channels and templates. After I clicked the button to create the new site the screen went blank. I went to another browser (Safari) to check if the last site had been added. The new site was available on the menu, but when I tried to click on it, I was logged out. Back in my primary browser (Chrome), the process repeated. After opening up another tab (the original was still blank) and bringing up the CP, I tried to access my new site. I was immediately logged out in Chrome too.

My password no longer worked when trying to log in, so I clicked the “Forgot your password?” link and tried to login with my new password. That didn’t work either.

I see that Thomas Sausen has the same problem. I created a new thread because my update to the latest builds of EE and MSM went flawlessly on Friday, 10-22 and he referenced some other problems that I didn’t experience.

    Hi Sean,

Try as I might, I’m unable to replicate on my end. If you roll back to 4 sites instead of 5 does everything work properly? Do you have a large number of blacklisted IPs for one or more sites?

    Hi Brandon,

Yes everything does work properly now that the sites have been rolled back. I don’t have blacklisted IPs for any of the sites.

I was just looking at etosha’s manipulation of cookies in response to a similar problem and investigated my own cookie settings and the relevant user guide section. My Cookie Settings are completely blank. The User Guide suggests creating a cookie prefix for each installation on a server. I have not done that, but it didn’t seem to matter with the other MSM sites. Should I have these Cookie Settings filled in for each site? If so, I’ll fill them in and try creating my 5th site once again.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Generally yes, you should set the cookie domain properly, but you were getting a blank screen before you even had the chance to set that, right?

Try enabling error reporting before adding the 5th site; a blank screen is often a hidden PHP error.

Correct. I had not even looked at the cookie settings until today. I’ll turn error reporting back on and try creating the 5th site again, and post the results back here.

    Thanks.

I turned error reporting back on and tried to recreate the 5th site after adding .westernpulp.com in the Cookie Domain field in Cookie Settings to each site. Prefixes didn’t seem to stick with individual sites, so I left those off. Here’s the error I got immediately after hitting submit to create the new site:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function comments_opened_notification_title() in /www/eh11166/public_html/engine/expressionengine/controllers/cp/sites.php on line 593

I went back into the CP, and I could see from the site menu that the new site had been created. Just as before, when I attempted to switch over to the new site, I got logged out from the CP and can no longer log back in unless I remove this cookie from whichever browser I’m using: exp_cp_last_site_id Once I try to access the new site, this is the cookie that is keeps me out of the control panel.

    Hi Sean,

Can you try this step on your setup and see if that helps at all?
