Google Search Creating Error on My Site

Google Search stopped working for me. I’ve figured out it has something to do with how Google is adding stuff to the end of the search URL. Google adds a string of things to the search results URL that always starts with a “?” and then a letter. Somehow the “?” doesn’t cause problems, but adding a letter after that makes EE cough up the error page (http://www.fallacydetective.com/search/?d). But it’s not the normal error page (http://www.fallacydetective.com/pages/error/) but instead the search page, but with the error page contents.

Any ideas on why this is happening? I didn’t change anything on my site and Google Search started creating this error, so it must be something Google changed and EE can’t handle.

    Hi Nathaniel,

The search seems to work if I add index.php back into your URL. Please disable your .htaccess file and put index.php back into your preferences as the site index file.

    Cheers

I added /index.php/ to the Google Search code for the search results page (they ask for a link to the page that the search results will be displayed in). This has solved the problem. However it doesn’t identify the cause!

    Nathaniel,

If you are using a htaccess to remove the index.php you may need specific rule for these URLs.
