I am receiving a “upload_invalid_filetype” error when uploading a JPG to a member profile. I receive the same error for all member account images, including Signature photo, Avatar photo, and Photo. It is also repeatable regardless of membership group (superadmin, member, etc.).

We are running a 2.1.0 install of EE on a Windows box. The file is well under the max image size and a regular JPG. Digging through the archives it looks like it might likely be a permissions issue, but the following folders are all set to “Full Control” for IIS_IUSRS and Users:

    images/avatars/
    images/forum_attachments/
    images/member_photos/
    images/pm_attachments/
    images/signature_attachments/

    Shanan,

What build of EE are you running?
Is this a fresh install or have you been upgrading with each release?

You might try updating system/expressionengine/config/mimes.php from a recent download of EE

Tried replacing the mimes.php file to no avail. Build number is 20100810.

Although I am not overly familiar with Windows servers I agree that it does sound like a permission issue. As you know these can be quite tricky… does a regular file upload (to embed an image in a channel entry, say) work? Is it just the member profiles?

Yes, regular files upload to channel entries. It’s just for the member profiles.

In that case, try checking to see if the same permissions are set for the other directories. Are they the same?
