Greetings!

I’ve run into this problem previously and am really hoping to straighten it out once and for all.

I have an EE 1.6.9 site that’s hosting three domains using Multiple Site Manager. Those three domains are also all sharing 1 Google Analytics profile, which is necessary to track conversions across the sites.

Step 2 here describes setting up cross-domain links between the sites:

That code results in the following link structure:

http://www.morinsfinecatering.com/?__utma=1.1167211471.1286565357.1286565357.1286565357.1&__utmb=1.2.10.1286565357&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1286565357.1.1.utmcsr=(direct)|utmccn=(direct)|utmcmd=(none)&__utmv=-&__utmk=85024409

When I click on that, I get an

Invalid Get Data

Error from EE on the destination site.

Is there a workaround for this that’s supported or that anyone’s come up with?

There is a good thread on this in the archived forums. It essentially comes down to URL rewriting for your particular setup. Since that’s something we can’t officially support I’m going to shift this over to the CodeShare Corner, but hopefully that thread will get you up and running. I checked out that post and tried a few of the solutions to no avail. As a test, I killed all my rewrites and attempted to access the Analytics-generated URL directly against index.php.

If you take a look at the original URL I posted in this thread, and those below, does this shed any light on any sort of EE issue?

This works (no rewrite rules, using index.php):

http://www.morinsfinecatering.com/index.php/?__utma=1.1167211471.1286565357.1286565357.1286565357.1&__utmb=1.2.10

This does not (no rewrite rules, using index.php):

http://www.morinsfinecatering.com/index.php/?__utma=1.1167211471.1286565357.1286565357.1286565357.1&__utmb=1.2.10.1

Once I add the .1 at the end, short any other characters from the original URL, it fails. I take away the .1, it works. For reference, the original URL with index.php:

http://www.morinsfinecatering.com/index.php/?__utma=1.1167211471.1286565357.1286565357.1286565357.1&__utmb=1.2.10.1286565357&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1286565357.1.1.utmcsr=direct

And the original URL with the rewrite rules in place/without index.php:

http://www.morinsfinecatering.com/?__utma=1.1167211471.1286565357.1286565357.1286565357.1&__utmb=1.2.10.1286565357&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1286565357.1.1.utmcsr=direct

I have now restored rewrite rules.

Is anyone from EE still subscribed to this thread after its move to the community forums? Having disabled all rewrites and still seeing the issue occur at a particular character count (?), it doesn’t seem, to me, to be so simple.

This happens in EE 2.1.0 20100810 as well. Anyone?

Same problem in ee 1.6.9. Its failing the part of the regex that tests for a semicolon and an ip address in the get data. Any fixes, other than stripping that part of the regex?

Were you able to resolve? Having the exact same issue w/ Google Analytics Cross Domain Tracking. Breaking in same place. Using 2.3.1
