Our newspaper launched an EE site at the end of July, and things have gone pretty well. Last week we launched a PDF downloads section, and began to sell online subscriptions. Things seemed to work ok in testing, but then when “real people” started subscribing, there are some problems. I can’t seem to get it figured out.

When someone buys anything in our store, they have to register. In EE membership, they automatically become a member of our “Registered Users” group. If they purchase an online subscription, we manually change them to the “Subscriber” member group.

Problem: once we switch them to “Subscriber” they can’t log in at all.
They get this error: “The username you submitted was not found in the database.” Yet, they show in the CP and everthing seems ok - they just can’t log in.

Has anybody else experienced anything like this?

    Hi gazettejournal,

Are you able to reproduce this yourself? Which version and build of EE are you using?

Yes, I was able to reproduce it yesterday, and also today.

    Just guessing now-
I thought if I changed the user name for a subscriber account, maybe it would register, but still get the same error message. rats.

    gazettejournal,

Can you update to 1.6.9 so we can rule out any file corruption issues, please?
