I have purchased the ExpressionEngine CMS and successfully installed it on my personal website. I also purchased the tutorial videos for ExpressionEngine as well. Currently I’m working on building the Channel University site in the tutorial classes.

My problem is when I upload the template file to the templates directory as seen in Episode 1 of the tutorial video at time 9 Mins and 55 Seconds. The template does not display.

Here is the link for the Channel University site I am building.Channel University Site

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi stewblack23, and welcome to the forums!

    1. Can I confirm the version and build of EE you’re using?
    2. Do you have Allow Templates to be Saved as Files set to Yes under Design > Templates > Global Template Preferences?
    3. Have you gone to the Synchronize Templates page, checked the ‘Sync’ checkbox and clicked Submit?

    1. The Version of EE I’m using is v2.1.0 Build 20100810.
    2. I do have Allowed Templates to be saved files set to yes under the Global Template Preferences.
    3. When I go under the Synchronize Templates page under “File Edit Date” it says no file exists however I uploaded my two index files to the correct places on my server.

Anytime that I create a new template and check the save templates as file box. I get an error that says “Unable to save your template as a text file”

This sounds like a permissions error. Make sure the path to your files is correct and that EE can create and write to files there.

I’ve figured that it was some sort of permission error. I tried to set the permission of the template file so that it was writable. But still was not getting the same error. After a while I just got mad and decided to completely reinstall EE and start from the beginning. Thanks for your help and hopefully I will not have this problem this second time around.

    For next time:

You may want to create a whereami.php file to get the server path correctly. Let us know if you run into any more issues.
