Hi all,

due to a picture upload error I just updated to 1.6.9 from 1.6.8 but the problem persists. I used this function in the past for creating my blog entries so if you ask my unqualified opinion this probably has nothing to do with EE but with the hosting server and permissions.

But maybe (probably) I am wrong and somebody here can help me.
The first attached file shows the file upload window.
The second attached file shows the error message window.

I have checked the UPLOADS directory in system/blog/uploads
via my ftp program and the folder is set to permissions 777 (read/write/execute)

What else could have gone wrong? Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums!

Please make sure that the paths at CP Home > Admin > Weblog Administration > File Upload Preferences > Edit File Upload Preferences are correct for your upload directory.

Hi Greg,

I have forwarded the question to my system admin.
Playing around with the path I found that if I changed the path, EE would give a path error message when trying to upload. So I guess EE likes the path as it is but has some other issue with uploading.

I will report back tomorrow what the system admin said about the path.

Let us know what you host says.

In the meantime was there anything usual about the file?
Was it very large either physically or dimension wise?

If you look at your PHP Info what values do you see for upload_max_filesize and memory_limit?

@ Greg,

my host has confirmed that the upload directory and paths are all fine as they are in EE.. So don’t think it is that.

Just checking on the size restrictions as well.

@ John,

upload_Max_filesize is set to 8M (I guess that is 8MB ?)
The memory limit is 64M

I checked on the server via ftp for the total size of the upload folder and it currently stands at 18.1 MB

I have forwarded the questions to my host as well to see if it sparks any ideas with them. But for now this does not look like the cause.
The files I tried to upload where just .jpg. Tiny size like 64kb and 256x256 pixel. Tried it with a host of other files and nothing works.

thanks for the update. Be sure to let us know what your host says

EE is very unspecific about the error encountered during upload. Is there anything in a log file or so to see what happened in more detail?

The attached file is a screenshot of the error message. What else could it be on the EE side? Is there anything else I can try?

Did your host come back to you. You would find a more specific error in your server log files if your host can provide them.

Can you FTP any files directly into that folder. Maybe you have an FTP quota in place

upload of the .jpg file to the upload folder that EE uses works just fine via FTP.
The issue is that the host claims that they did not change anything on their side when it stopped working and would like to charge me a couple of hours work for looking into this.

But when it stopped working I did not change anything on the EE side. So in my world it then must be something with the server.

What log file do I need to have a closer look at again? Is there a specific name for that kind of log file? Basically I guess we need to understand why exactly the upload is not working in EE or what is hindering EE to put the file to the server.

Tobias, if you go to Admin ›  Utilities ›  PHP Info, what is set for open_basedir? Do you also see any references on the page to ‘mod_security’?

the open_basedir is set to the following path LOCAL VALUE:  /var/www/vhosts/skirealestate.com/httpdocs:/tmp MASTER VALUE: no value

serching that page I found no reference to mod_security

Is your site run as a secure site i.e. do you access your CP at https:// rather than http://?
