I currently allow anybody to post comments on the blog on a site. I would like to continue to allow people to comment without having to register to become a member however I’d like some way to remind existing members to login when they post a comment.

My thought was that the fields i currently require for a comment are (Name) (Email) (Website), that I could somehow run a check when a member submitted a comment, and if the email they submitted matched that of an existing user, it could have a popup dialogue or something of the sort that said something like (Oh hey, it looks like you’re a member, enter your password to login and continue posting your comment).

Any suggestions for how I could go about this would be super awesome. Thanks guys!

I don’t see a straightforward way to do this, and as there is apparently little incentive for members to log in, they might not do so anyway.

I’d suggest a simpler approach, such as placing a login form or link above the comment form - ‘already a member? log in to comment’ - and/or maybe a heading above the comment form: ‘comment as a guest (or why not log in first?)’

Just a thought - hope it helps!
