Hello, everyone. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my thread. I appreciate any advice and support you can offer.

Our intern is working on a small site for a client and I’ll be in charge of coding the thing in EE before turning the site over to the client. The Portfolio section has several image sliders that act as containers for each project.

    Here’s what I’m talking about: http://pinkboatcreative.com/test/portfolio.html

The client needs to be able to add new image sliders and images through the EE control panel. Could you offer some advice on how I could approach this from the development perspective? I assume I should use a dedicated blog for those elements but I’m unsure how to dynamically generate new sliders based on the images and descriptions the client will upload.

I’d also appreciate recommendations for plugins that would make image handling easier.

Thanks a TON if you can help me out. I’m sort of an EE newbie and keeping my fingers crossed that someone will have a helpful solution for me.

Hi Patrick. Welcome to the EE forums!

Thanks for sharing the link. It makes the response much easier 😊

My suggestion would be to leave the screenshots in the same weblog as the “my work” project. You could have a custom field specifically for the slider content.

There’s a fantastic EE add-on called Matrix that makes this really easy. I don’t know which version of EE you’re using but it is available for both (but requires another add-on called Fieldframe for 1.x). There are a few ways to upload images in EE but for this my suggestion would be dependent on what version of EE you’re using. Which is it?

Using Matrix you can upload as many images as you want and your EE tags would just loop through them to display them.

I’d also suggest an image re-sizing plugin just to be sure it displays correctly. We can tell our clients what dimensions to use as much as we want, but it’s always good to resize automagically if the images are too large. I prefer ED Imageresizer but it is poorly documented. Image Sizer is also a good one. You use them directly in your template to check image dimensions and resize if necessary. It saves a cached version of each image it resizes.

So, I hope this helps a bit. Take a look at these add-ons and come back with any questions.
    😊
