MSM -- how to tie weblogs in on two sites

Here’s what I’ve got: Two sites with different URLs using MSM. I have a calendar of events and a marketplace that we load events and products into via weblogs. What I’d like to do is have that weblog shared between the two sites so that I don’t have to update each individually. For example, if I enter a baseball game for July 5 on Site A, I’d like that to also appear on Site B.

Is this possible to do using the one weblog?

    thansen,

Yes you can share data between site templates. With MSM installed you now have access to the site= parameter for use in your weblog:entries tag

EE Docs : Multiple Site Manager Variables and Parameter

    Does that help?

Sort of helps. But what it’s not doing is transferring all of the fields/properties between blogs. For example, the store items transfer between but not the images.

    Hi thansen, can you clarify?

EE isn’t going to move or copy any image files. You can do that if need be, or simply link to their location on the original site.

I understand that—but it’s not passing fields between the two sites. The image location is one field, we have another field for latitude/longitude in a map function. There are fields in the weblog that are not being passed between the sites.

Ah ok I get your thinking. No this is not possible. You cant have a field on one site and another similar field on the other site and have the update on one, automatically update the other.

You can however as I mentioned show the data from the field on Site A on a template in Site B

Regarding linking images between site then make sure that in the URL setting for their Upload Destination it has an absolute URL.

I feel like we might not be understanding each other here.

Here is my example.  We have an events calendar weblog on Site A.  We want to have the same event calendar show up on Site B.  Most of the information from the weblog is passing through, but certain pieces appear to be getting lost.  Both sites are intended to have a map showing the location of the event, and this is powered by google maps so the weblog has a field (FFMatrix) for longitude and latitude that needs to be supplied for the map to work.  On Site B, the longitude and latitude aren’t there for some reason, but most everything else is.

Is that maybe more clear? or maybe you understood me before, just making sure.  Thank you again for your help!

thansen, the best way to troubleshoot these kinds of issues is simplification. Try getting the lat/lon fields displaying by themselves in an otherwise blank template - no PHP or JSON. Does that work?

Tried the blank template and couldn’t get {product_image_100 show='filename'} to generate anything, could that be an issue with the show=‘filename’ parameter? Everything else seems to be coming through.  That is on the marketplace template.  For the events calendar, I can not get the {latitude_longitude}{location_latitude}{/latitude_longitude} and {latitude_longitude}{location_longitude}{/latitude_longitude} to generate anything either.

    Hi thansen,

These do sound like FF_Matrix issues - can you confirm that all of the standard (non-FF) custom fields are populating correctly across sites?

    Hey Brandon,

Yes, those are populating correctly.  The nGen File Field and the FF_Matrix are the only ones that seems to be having problems.

I’ve considered that the Extension for these may have been out of date, but I updated the files for that and it didn’t seem to effect anything.

Thank you for your patience and help.

Yes, my next suggestion was to make sure the 3rd-party extensions were up-to-date. Unfortunately we can’t support those from our end, so you’d need to get in touch with the authors regarding the MSM issues. Hopefully it’s a quick fix.
