It’s not you, it’s me.  Well, mostly.

After years using (and perhaps abusing) ExpressionEngine, I finally decided to say goodbye to the EE platform and move my entire blog to Blogger over the last two weeks.

Why am I bothering to tell you this?  Because I’d like to say thank you, and I’d also like to note that you have a lot of things to be thankful for with EE that you may take for granted.

EE power is next-to-none.  I’ve played with Wordpress, extensively used MovableType (though a while back), and am now using Blogger, but EE is by far the most powerful, most flexible, most awe-inspiring CMS I’ve ever touched.

It ended up not being the right tool for me, and I probably should have realized that sooner.  I probably did, actually, but was just daunted by the massive work needed to port my blog away (as you can read in my post referenced above).

During my time with EE, I was grateful to receive so much patient, friendly, and kind support.  At times I was brusque, and certainly I was sadly often frustrated due to repeated upgrade issues.  But in no case can I remember any community member or EE staffer being less than gracious and any less than doggedly persistent in helping me resolve the issues with my setup.

Anyway, I’ll remain subscribed to this thread, but other than that, I think this is indeed goodbye from me to EE.

So long, and thanks for all the fish 😊

DISCLAIMER:  I work for Google, and have indeed worked there for 4+ years; my decision to change blogging platforms was not consciously affected by my employment.  In fact, most Googler-blogs I’m familiar with run on non-Blogger platforms.  Unlike at some other companies, we’re not required to use our own products and there’s no stigma for using competitors’ products; we’re all free to use what we feel is best for our needs.

Adam,  you and I began chatting I think during the Radio Userland or MT days. I understand your decision but I’ll miss seeing you around. In the end you have to have a site that lets you write. That’s what they’re there for, right?

Good luck to you and Bladam! Keep in touch, eh?

Hi Lisa, yes, we do go way back!  Thanks for the kind send-off, and I’m sure we’ll see each other around! 😊
