    Hi,

We are looking into getting MSM 2.0 but I wanted to check one item first. The sites are on the same server but have separate IP addresses due to SSL certificates being used.

I just wanted to make sure we could still use MSM in this instance.

Also as a followup question, can the System folder be outside the web root folder (for extra security) of the main site and still be accessed?

    Many thanks

    Andy

    Hi, Andy -

As long as each sub-site can access the main site’s system directory, then this will work.

Yes the system folder can be outside the web root.  See running the system above web-root.  That is for EE 2.

    Does that help?

    Hi Lisa,

With regards the system folder, yes I know it can be (this is how we have it installed now). Was just curious if the other sites on that server could access a hidden system folder.

Also, the question of the MSM with separate IP addresses but on same server still stands.

They should be able to; this is really up to how your hosting is configured.  In EE 2 you’ll just set up the index.php appropriately for each site, including the path to the system folder, above web-root or otherwise.

As far as different IP addresses, that should not matter - the primary issue is making sure all Sites can access the system folder.

    Thanks Lisa,

Should be ordering this month then.I guess worst case scenario is we can use the MSM for other sites down the road if we have trouble.

I see many more EE sites in our future 😉

    Cheers

    Andy
