Another Friday, Another Problem with video player

Okay, I’m sorry to keep bugging people but a week ago the directory that stores video files in our site disappeared. No record of anyone deleting it in EE, nothing in the database logs, nothing on the hosting logs. The directory just went away.

Well, replaced the directory and the files and all worked fine.

This Friday, the video player stops loading the video files. Files are still there. It just acted like the files wouldn’t load. I had backed up our site through our hosting service two days earlier. So I replaced the files for the flash player with the ones from Wednesday. It only seemed to make the problem worse. The videos would still not load—but was very strange. For about 10 minutes, they’d load and autoplay—and it’s not set to autoplay. But now, none of the flash player loads at all. Previously the player would load with the playlist and thumbnail images but not load the videos. Now none of it loads—and these are files from three days ago when it all worked just fine.

I have no idea why two Fridays in a row changes have occurred.

    Here’s what we had done:
We are working on a site with the MSM. We did alter templates in that site, including javascript and CSS. Those files do have the same names as templates in the original site but I didn’t think changing those would impact the original site. I thought those were independent of each other?

Here’s what we’ve done to troubleshoot:
    1. I replaced the .fla and one javascript file via FTP from the previous backup.
    2. We have replaced the templates from the second site with previous versions just to see if that had an impact.
None of this has solved anything.

I do have a full backup available for the site through our hosting service. What I don’t know is if restoring that through our web host will actually make changes to the site because I don’t believe that it will change any of the templates, etc in Expression Engine. But I really am not that familiar with it. We had our first site designed by a vendor with assurances that we’d be able to easily copy templates with MSM to create our second site.

Any advice? Is there a way to do a full site restore through EE? Should I do the restore through our backup files from the server?

    thansen,

Have you got a link to the page where your video player is not working?
While this on the surface does not look like an EE technical support question lets rule that out for sure.
