    Hello EE Community,

I’ve been playing around with EE for the first time since “graduating” from Wordpress and I must say, it really is all that it’s cracked up to be. Loving the flexibility of the templating system!

Anyway, I’m trying to figure out an elegant way to add other languages to my site. I’ve looked around the internets for a few options, but they all seem to be geared towards EE 1.6 (c.f. PutYourLightsOn Multi-Language Module, Leevi Graham’s Multi-Language).

Has anyone successfully implemented a multi-lingual site in EE 2.0? Do the prior links before work with EE 2.0?

    Thanks!

Sorry for the double post - do you think the Multiple Site Manager addon would be suitable for creating a multi-lingual site?

    Thanks!

to be honest - the priniciples used in EE1.6 for multi languages could still be applied to EE2.0 - but yes if you intend to use a plugin, then this would need to be updated to work.

The options for multi lingual sites tend more to be driven by your specific needs, as opposed to the technologies around it. An annoying answer i know as it requires you to sit down and really think about this one long and hard.

Typically, you need to consider how many languages you are going to have, then will the content differ from language to language (i.e. will menu structure change for more/less pages). Are you linking to documents that also need languages, are you planning on letting others run different languages so how are you going to secure content between people, etc…

These questions will guide you into either
MSM - seperate sites, seperate setups, different layouts.
Dynamic structure - loading exactly the same content in different languages, maybe seperated by fields in a weblog, or even weblogs.

Then the detection of the language can vary on how you choose..

Thanks for the quick and clarifying response!

Does path.php exist in EE 2.0? It doesn’t seem to be there in the default directory. Hoping to tinker around with this approach: Multi-Language Site Alternative.

index.php and look into the routing… but for specifics i would not know, as I never tested the EE.2 beta for multilingual site yet. The doc’s will probably help.
