When you upload a photo using the file manager it automatically makes a thumbnail and puts it in a file called thumbs that the file manager created gratis.  That’s a very cool feature and stops me from having to create a thumbnail myself.  However, when using the file manager to embed files I can’t get access to the thumbs file.  Now that isn’t a great problem for me because I have access to the files on my FTP server and can move them from the thumbs file to the regular file, but I wouldn’t want to give a regular user that kind of access to the FTP server.

Never mind on this.  As I was falling asleep last night I realized that since I can create upload place I could just use the file manager to create the _thumbs as an upload site, then the file manager will give me and others access to the file.  That works.  I think I was being thrown off because of the way EE used to put three different versions of the same picture into the file, and I was expecting something similar.
