Templates not updating when running on local MAMP server

    Hi there,

I’m running a test installation of EE 1.6.x using MAMP on my local machine. It’s all working fine, except for an issue with Templates.

I’m editing the Templates directly with Dreamweaver, but the changes are not reflected when I refresh the page in the browser. The change is only affected when I open the template in the admin (I can see the changes there) and then click the update button.

I’ve never had this problem when FTPing files up, can anyone suggest why this might be happening?

    Thanks.

You may want to have a look at the Templatizer Extension described here :

kevincannon - these are existing templates you are modifying?  You are not attempting to create new templates via the filesystem?

What version and build of EE are you using? You can find that information in the footer of your control panel.

Yes, these are existing templates. I created them in the control panel, and then made sure ‘save as file’ was set. I then edited them directly in Dreamweaver. This is the same process as I have done many times in the past, but this time I’m running everything locally on OSX using MAMP.

The version I have is 1.6.8.

I’ve tried a few things and searched here extensively but have not found a solution.

We’ve seen some similar problems occur with Dreamweaver. Is it possible to test with another editor such as TextMate, TextWrangler, or Smultron? I’ve used all three successfully with MAMP.

Tested with Smultron and it’s the same behaviour.

If I had to hazard a guess I’d say it’s some kind of template caching. I have the cache turned off in template preferences, but what else could be causing this problem. It’s killing my development time.

Can we have you upgrade to 1.6.9? That would put both of us on the same build for testing purposes.

    Thanks for the help.

I just updated to 1.6.9 and can confirm I still have the issue.

Hmm.. and I don’t. When using Smultron, are you closing the file and saving, or just saving?

C’mon. Of course I’m saving the file! 😊
In fact EE is seeing the change in the control panel itself.

    Here’s what happens.
    - Create template in control panel and set ‘save as file’
    - View template page in browser
    - Make change to template via text editor.
    - Refresh template in browser, and no change. (Have tried clearing cache etc..)
    - View the template in control panel and the change is visible there.
    - Press ‘update’ button.
    - Refresh page in browser and the change is visible.

I asked if you were *closing* the file in addition to *saving* it. Wasn’t sure if that would effect the outcome.

Even after refreshing the open page, and only saving the file without closing it, I get an updated template. I’m not using any sort of caching, just a base install of 1.6.9.

I’m sure this is not a normal problem. This is just a base install too.

What else could cause this issue?

I’m not certain. I can’t replicate the problem on my MAMP installs at all.. let me ask the dev team what else could be causing the issue. Since it’s a local install, we can’t login and test. :(

    Other possible causes:

Bad path. Make sure the path to your folder also includes a trailing /

For instance, my base path is set to:

    /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/ee169/edit/

    Or permissions are off.
