Hi, I am beginning to think I missed something obvious since I am getting a bit crazy here.

The website is a designers shoe store :

    * Collections (2 per year, like in fashion)

** Sections (2 static sections City and Wedding)

*** Products (details, photos, prices, etc)

I created 2 weblogs for the Sections, and though to use Categories for the collections.
The problem is that my homepage needs to link to the latest collection (aka the latest created category) and the product page needs to display the other products from the same collection and section.

Could you suggest me a way out please ?

    Regards,

    Fabrice Delaneau

Fabrice, there are a number of ways you can work with content. There’s no such thing as recent categories per se, but there would be recent weblog entries, or recent weblog entries that fit in a particular category.

    Hi again,

I trashed the categories, went for weblogs + relationships approach, and am still stuck :(

My products have basically 2 parameters, a collection and a section, here is what I build :

    - 1 weblog for the Collections (fall-winter 2010|spring-summer 2011|etc),
    - 1 weblog for the products with a relationship to the Collections weblog and a radio field for the section.

This allows me to easily retrieve the latest collection and create the links for the homepage, nice.

But once you get to the next page there should be only a section of the chosen collection. (/index.php/wedding/printemps-ete-2011/)

I discovered that the reverse_related_entries tag doesn’t allow for the search parameter so this is a no go.

I can’t wrap my mind around this simple problem, the relationship between the weblogs is rather simple and yet I can’t find a way with EE.

To get a better idea of what I am building, the HTML mockup is available at the following address : http://ellips.fdelaneau.com (only 3 pages are build, home, section and product).

    Hi Fabrice,

I’m going to move this thread into the How To forum for you so that you can get some community input into what you are trying to achieve.

    Cheers

    Thanks Greg,

I kinda found out the hard way that I really need 2 levels of navigation section/collection before getting to a listing or a product page.

Categories seemed to be a viable way but it needs so many twist to achieve what I need that it just isn’t worth it.

Basically it can’t be achieve with EE native functionalities and I need a plugin like Structure to do that.

I would love to be proven wrong, it is the first time that I am really limited by the logic behind EE’s urls :(

edit: Even with Structure, no luck so far :(
