    1. If I purchase a 2.0 commercial or non-commercial license, do I get access to 1.6.8? I believe the FAQ says yes, but I want to confirm.

    2. Regarding download accounts, what does it mean when you say “Download Accounts will be going away when ExpressionEngine 2.1 is released in favor of a more traditional software upgrade path. This means that some ExpressionEngine 2.x updates will be free and some will be paid upgrades.” What determines if updates will be free or paid? How often do you anticipate paid updates to be released? What kind of pricing models will be used for paid updates?

    3. If I run a community fan site that is not a legal business entity, but does display ads on the page, is a commercial or non-commercial license needed? The site is not a business site and does not sell anything, but there are advertisements displayed. What license would be needed?

Yes, you do. You may either one of them on a public site.

What does it mean when you say “Download Accounts will be going away when ExpressionEngine 2.1 is released in favor of a more traditional software upgrade path.

Up to and including 1.6.8 we’ve had a “yearly subscription” model, if you will: you paid your fee and got another year of downloads. Now it will be a more traditional approach where significant upgrades will be charged for separately.

What determines if updates will be free or paid?

To be determined from case to case.

How often do you anticipate paid updates to be released? What kind of pricing models will be used for paid updates?

I’m afraid there’s no information available on that subject (yet).

If I run a community fan site that is not a legal business entity, but does display ads on the page, is a commercial or non-commercial license needed?

Our stance hasn’t changed here: is the purpose of the site to make money (and not just run a few ads to help offsetting hosting costs), or does it otherwise support a commercial venture? If you’d answered “yes” to either one of these questions, a “Commercial” license would be required. Otherwise, a “Personal” one is fine.
