Hi, have a friend using a Mac and needs to convert from Quicktime to FLV. I’m on Windows and use After Effects, so I’m no help to them.
Anyone know a good, cheap or free program to convert from mov to flv format on a Mac?
Thanks in advance.

I prefer Adobe Flash (with the included Media Encoder) for this, but your friend could also use FFmpeg via http://ffmpeg.org/ - that one works very well as well and is free.

That might work, but really could use something for a non IT person. Flash would be too difficult and cost prohibitive for them for sure.
Thanks for the link.

Right on.
There’s also ffmpegX which has a GUI, see http://ffmpegx.com/ - this might make more sense.
Alternatively, you could write a bash script for your friend that would take “input.mov” and return “output.flv” - he’d then have to rename “output.flv” to whatever he needs and upload it.

That looks pretty cool Kerim, but I don’t see flv listed as a file format it converts to. But I’ll give it a try and see if they might be able to use it, thanks.

He can also try Xilisoft Video converter. It supports several video formats including quicktime and flv. I’ve been using it for several years now for my video converting tasks.
