I am trying to figure out something with the search module. I was wondering if it is possible to tweak the Search module to search inside the photo gallery as well as the weblog. We have tried everything we know and haven’t been able to get the search module to search in this way.Instead of creating a custom search module, we were wondering if there would be anyway to allow the search module to be able to search within the Photo Gallery module. Our client has an e-commerce site that I think in the beginning was setup the wrong way. She has about 2,000 products listed in a Photo Gallery, and we would like to know if it would be possible to have the search module search within this feature or if you might be able to help us or point us in the right direction.

If this possibility is not available at this time, would anyone be able to tell us what tables to search in the database so that we could write our own custom search plugin? If anyone has seen this issue arise before or if someone out there has a solution for this, we would be greatly appreciate of any help we may could get.

    Hi Tony,

I’ve added a technical support credit to your account so that you can post in the support forums. I’ll ask one of our staff to review this. Thanks.

    Hi Tony,

Just some more info for you. I’ve asked our team to review this but its likely going to require a custom or 3rd party solution. Typically it takes 1 business day for a response, sometimes sooner depending on the support load. We tackle issues in the order received and since you posted last night it will likely be later today.

However, for this particular issue I’m betting that a custom or 3rd party solution will be required. The Photo Gallery Module was designed as a personal use module, not as a commerce/product solution. This is one of the reasons we’ve dropped the Photo Gallery completely from EE 2.0 in favor of having Galleries built using Weblogs (called Channels in 2.0). This provides more power and flexibility, including direct access to EE’s built in search engine.

Solspace has an add-on called Super Search that may help for EE 1.x:

I’m not sure if that add-on includes searching the Photo Gallery or not, but its worth contacting them about. They are one of the most respected EE developers out there.

Tony, does Leslie’s reply help? I am afraid you’ll really have to use some third party or external solution. Let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with, please.

I think so…I am going to do some research with the Solspace folks. I tried to submit a request to their Contact Us for but it was getting busted somehow…I’ll try again in a little while. I’ll let you all know through this forum whether or not I have found a solution. Thanks for following up!

Looks like the Super Search Module from Solspace doesn’t search the Photo Gallery Module either. I have a PHP developer who may be able to help us with a custom search module, however he will need to know database connections, tables we need to search against, etc. What would be the next step in finding out information about this?

    Thanks,
    Tony

The simplest way would be to take a look at the database structure yourself. It’s a standard MySQL database, really quite straightforward, and should not be a problem for a competent developer.

Have you seen the developer docs?
