We’ve recently had to switch to registration only… and it seems one of my bloggers cannot comment. He’s in the same group as me, so I don’t think it can be a permissions problem.

    This is what he says:

when I try it tells me to register it wont’ accept my log in. When I try to find out my expression engine password to re-register for the comment section ( the password appears automatically and I’ve forgotten it) it says my name is taken and won’t give it to me. I can’t change my password becuase in order to do so, you have to give your old password in the sequence and I’ve forgotten it. reluctant to give myself a new user name ( what would it be - I don’t want to be william brian or brian c ). So I’m completely stuck. I suspect there’s a simple answer a techie woudl come up with - but I’m not one - .aaaaghh!!!

    Any one any ideas?

    Hi Mick,

If I understand correctly this individual needs to login before submitting a comment but he has forgotten his password? If that’s the case can you direct him to yourdomain.com/index.php/member/forgot_password where he can reset his password?

    Cheers

That’s actually quite useful, and I will pass that on… but it is that he is logged in as a blogger, but does not seem to be able to comment… when he tries, it asks him to register int he manner above..

    My colleague’s reply:

It doesn’t, as before. I tried that several times. The trouble is, it won’t accept my new email even though I used it on the comment page beforre you required registration.. and to get things right, I need either my email or my password to work. It’s ok on expression engine as the password is pre-set but I’ve forgotten it and it will only email the reminder for ther comment function to the old email addrss which is dead.

    Hi Mick,

Are you both Super Admins on this site?

Do you have or can you get SuperAdmin access? This will be a bit tough to debug, without going through the Admin section of the CP.

    Hi Mick,

If you have (or can get Super Admin access) then you can change the email address and/or password of your colleague so that he can login/reset his password. Is that going to work for you?

    Cheers

Greg it does not allow me to reset the details of other people without their password. Is there a way around that?

    Hi Mick,

I know that those fields are there but you don’t need to supply those details if you are Super Admin. Just making the change should be sufficient.

    Cheers

I have been using the short cut posted above for months now, but now I have another blogger who cannot log in (he’s been with us for a couple of years without any bother) and even the short cut is not working any more?

    Help?

You *can* do direct manipulation to the database via PHPMyAdmin, do you have access to that? Who *does* have SuperAdmin logins?
