    Hi everyone,

    It’s been a while, but I’m back. 😊

I’m having installation issues with EE 1.6.8 using Virtualmin 3.75 GPL on Debian 5 (lenny). After filling in all required data (db info, username, etc) I get a pretty much blank page (install.php?page=5) with just the logo.

I have both renamed and not renamed the system folder to no avail. That doesn’t seem to make any difference.

I have turned on PHP logging, but nothing get’s logged. Turns out display_errors was on all the time and nothing gets written to log or screen. Magic_quotes_gpc is now off, as is register_globals.

Right now, these are the errors I get (which is more than I got 5 minutes ago):
    1. Unable to locate the file called “config.php”. Please make sure you have uploaded all components of this software.
    2. Unable to locate the database file. Please make sure you have uploaded all components of this software.
    3. Unable to locate the file containing your email templates. Make sure you have uploaded all components of this software.

I have uploaded the complete contents of the EE zipfile.

Of course, I have followed the installation instructions and I have succesfully installed EE several times before, just not using Virtualmin.

Is there any Virtualmin / Debian 5 voodoo I should be aware of? Any settings I might check or may have overlooked?

Thank you for any insight you might provide!

    Be well… Nico

My apologies, I am NOT referring to a Core version. It is fully licensed.

Nico, I found this thread: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/110506/ - does anything in there help?

No, I did see that thread, thanks. All info is known (I’m a seasoned admin by now), but I’ve been using Virtualmin for just a week… 😉

Seems like EE cannot find out where it resides on the filesystem or sth like that.

    Thanks again, will investigate further.

Just for the record, a EE 2.0 PBT install fails aswell after filling out all details. It bails with a blank screen. Nothing in the logs whatsoever, no error output on screen.

Latest Zend Optimizer for PHP 5.2 has been installed.

I’m sure this is a local issue I’m having, but still… I’m open for any and all clues!

    Thanks… Nico

When you installed previously, what were you using before?

    Hi Sue,

I’ve installed EE 1.6.x before on a number of hosts (though not that many…), mostly on Debian 4 (etch) with Apache 1.3.x and PHP 5.2.0. I’ve had shell access all the way all the time.

This time, for a number of reasons, I’m using Debian 5 (lenny) with Virtualmin. I do have shell access, but I am specifically trying to get this working in general, which involves a lot of ftp stuff. 😉

I’m still fully convinced I’m doing something stupid myself and overlooking an obvious error on my part.

I could DM a link to a phpinfo() page on this particular domain?

    Thanks so far!... Nico

    Hi Nico,

Since this seems to be the first time that you are installing on Debian 5 can you confirm that you are able to do that without using Virtualmin? Just to make sure that there isn’t a Debian 5 problem getting in the way.

    Cheers

    Greg

    Greg and Sue,

    You rule.  💋

Virtualmin installed all required packages by itself. This did not include php5-mysql…

Oh well, live and learn. Installing php5-mysql solved the problem.

As to why no messages could be found in the logs, I’ll solve that some other day.

Thanks a million and Happy New Year! 😊

    Grtz… Nico

    Hi Nico,

Glad that’s sorted. Please post back if you have further problems or questions.

    Cheers
