    I’m having a problem with EE in the Control Panel. Every time I do something such as submit a template or add a new custom field and then update I get a blank page. I don’t get redirected to the same page it just goes to a new blank page. I cant find anything on the forums or internet that is similar or solves this problem. I have to use the back button to get back to where I was and sometimes this causes the data to re-submit (e.g. when publishing a post).

    Just to note, I have the system running on a sub-domain. I had the same problem when I was playing with the core version and after updating to a commercial license the same problem persists straight away with no extensions or plug-ins.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    What version and build of EE are you on? What is your server environment? Apache on UNIX? Something else?

    It’s the latest build 1.6.8 and it is Apache on Unix. I did install the LG .htaccess plug-in which I thought might be the problem, but I’ve deleted the .htaccess file and still have the problem

    Yes, please refrain from trying to remove index.php from the URL for the time being. Try adding this to your config.php, see if it changes anything:

    $conf['cookie_domain'] = ".example.com";
    $conf['cookie_path'] = "";
    $conf['cookie_prefix'] = "";
    $conf['admin_session_type'] = "c";
    $conf['require_ip_for_login'] = "n";
    $conf['secure_forms'] = "n";

    Be sure to adjust example.com to your domain.

    Make sure to turn on error reporting. Blank pages are usually a suppressed PHP error.

    OK I have error reporting turned on. I’m not getting any errors though on the control panel or actual site?

    The next thing to look at is what extensions you might be using.

    Are you using any?

    If so, can you temporarily disable all your extensions by clicking the big green button labeled Disable Extensions?

    There are no extensions installed and they are disabled. I was initially running the Core to test with and had the LG .htaccess extension, but I haven’t installed any since upgrading. I did forget to delete the .htaccess file from the Core version when I upgraded, but I deleted it and it didn’t change anything.

    Is there a particular reason you’re running on a subdomain?

    Tell us more about the hosting. Is it on Linux or Windows?

    It’s just for testing purposes before we launch the site. It does seem like a problem with the hosting and sub-domain as the problem was the same with the Core and the Commercial version. It’s a Linux server.

    I’ll try installing it just on a sub-folder tomorrow morning instead of with a sub-domain and see if that helps at all.

    Yes, please do. You might want to try on a different host as well, if at all possible. Let us know how it goes.

    OK, I tried it on a normal folder on the same host and the same thing happened. I tried it on a different host and it worked perfectly, so the problem is obviously on the hosting side so I’ll get in touch with their support and see if they can help.

    One thing I noticed, on the server where I was having the problems that back button didn’t work consistently. It was quite erratic and would take me back 5 pages to a previous section instead of the previous page. Have you seen this before?
