Can Google Chrome OS Compete with Microsoft Windows? 😜

I love linux but no it can’t. I just hope it can bring linux to more people.

I’m using Chrome right now (not sure what is has to do with linux I must admit), and its my favorite browser.
However I still have to use IE sometimes because the beauty of Chrome is also its weakness - support for extra features. I want its speed, simplicity, and it rarely breaks. Meanwhile it doesn’t even support Google’s own technologies like google toolbar features (checking pagerank and gmail checking), and worst of all it doesn’t support Google Bookmarks. I had all my bookmarks neatly organized and available on just about any computer, and then came Chrome - bah.
It is pretty damn great on CSS support, including support for CSS standards that neither Firefox nor IE support. Unfortunately it still can’t display some pages properly, some important applications/scripts only work on IE, etc.
Its such a great application, but they must figure out how to extend its features to support the other Google technologies natively without the slightest compromise on speed or stability. I think it may be why it does not change very quickly, most changes are still in closed testing.
Now if it started natively supporting google bookmarks, whiz-bang Gears features, and support for google docs and Gmail, it would really have some zing.
It has the potential and they have the resources and the accompanying technology, it just remains to be seen as far as implementation goes.
Also I can’t debug in it, neither with my IDE nor a Firebug-like utility for javascript debugging. I really love its Inspect Element feature though, very handy when designing.

Hey Brian, I think he’s talking about Google Chrome OS, not the browser…
#5 / Nov 02, 2009 4:57pm
Drrrr, that makes far more since then.
I’m going to go with “Impossible to tell, they haven’t released anything yet”.
And I find it instantly confusing and annoying that they refer to the OS with the same name as the browser.

I definitely agree that having the same name makes it confusing. Hopefully they’ll change it before it goes into production.

Hi Ben…I also think so…It’ll bring Linux platform to more people around the globe..

Hi Brian, Accepting your interest in Chrome Browser too..😊

The OP is simply a spammer with no interest in CodeIgniter. Is this too difficult for you people to recognize?

Re: wiredesignz-
The topics not bad though so who cares.

It’s posted in the lounge (correct forum), I’ve yet to see him try to sell anything, he isn’t making an ass of himself - I fail to see the problem. Seems like harmless chit chat in a forum designed for harmless chit chat.

Think about it for a moment, rather than justifying yourselves, is this a CodeIgniter related topic, or just someone out to spam?
#13 / Nov 03, 2009 1:33pm
The Lounge
CodeIgniter’s social forum where you can discuss anything not related to development. No topics off limits… but be civil.
Not to get into a dictionary discussion, but I take spam to mean either blatant advertisement, mass posting, or just loosely a large amount of vacuous material. With 10 posts in over 2 months from the op and no advertisement that I’m aware of, I don’t see how he could be seen as spamming. And this needn’t have anything to do with CI - I think you are confused about the purpose of this particular forum.
I suppose I just don’t see what your objection is to him or this thread inparticular. You generally provide lots of useful material on these forums, but at the moment you are coming off as just looking for a fight, and I don’t get why. To each his own, but I don’t see where you are coming from.

@Brian, Maybe you just don’t recognize spam. The mere mention a new operating system is enough to trigger warnings when it is not related to CodeIgniter. If a regular member had started the thread then that is ok and is vastly different than an newbie with few posts. But of course it’s ok for you to justify yourself.

I suppose we just have different definitions for some things. Seems we must agree to disagree. I simply find the op harmless, and you categorize it as spam. Fair enough.
